History and Origin of Limerick Day:

Our research easily uncovered he reason why we celebrate Limerick Day. …it celebrates the Limerick, and honors the birth of Limerick writer Edward Lear. However, we found little information pointing us to who created this day. Whoever it was, we’re glad they did!

This holiday is not a true “National” day. Older historical references always referred to it as “Limerick Day”. The word “National” appears to have been added by a few websites around 2017 – 2018. We did not find any U.S. congressional records or presidential proclamations making this a true “National” day. We did not find any reference to this as a “National” day from  the government of Ireland either.

Comfy, cozy, and quite livable to the child, its an everyday source of frustration for the “folks”.

To mom and dad’s delight, and every child’s chagrin, Clean Up Your Room Day arrives every May 10th. Get out the shovels. Call in an industrial sized dumpster. Its time for everyone to clean your rooms!

Note to Kids: Clean Up Your Room Day also applies to your parents. You may want to inspect to assure that mom and dad practice what they preach!

Mother’s Day

Date When Celebrated : Second Sunday in May 9,2021

Everybody has a mother and absolutely no one is more special than mom. Sure, dad is really important. And, grandparent’s too. But moms, well they are just the greatest. Often taken for granted, they are always our strongest supporter. You can’t do wrong in Mom’s eyes. When you are hurt, or not feeling well….there is no one else that can help you more than Mom. I saw this clearly recently as our son was in the emergency room. Sure, dad was an important presence. But, the look in my son’s eyes with his mom by his side was certain affirmation of mom’s comforting ways, and importance.

So go out and celebrate Mother’s Day. First and foremost, spend time with her. If you absolutely can not be there, take time for a long phone call. Flowers, cards, candy and gifts are all part of the day. But, mom wants some time with you far more than anything else.

National Day of Prayer

Date When Celebrated: This holiday is always held on May 6

In compliance with a law passed in the U.S. Congress in 1988, each year the President of the United States issues a statement proclaiming the first Thursday in May to be  a National Day of Prayer. But, the first National Day of Prayer was declared hundreds of years earlier. Religious roots in this country go back to its formation. In 1775, the Continental Congress set aside a time for prayer. In proclaiming this very first  National Day of Prayer, the Founding Fathers asked the colonists to pray for our fledgling country. Many immigrants to America, came here in search of religious freedom. Our God fearing forefathers felt so strongly about religious liberty, that they wrote the First Amendment to the Constitution, specifically to protect the right to religious freedom.

National Day of Prayer is Thursday - Daily Leader | Daily Leader

Each year on the National  Day of Prayer, there are over 35,000 prayer gatherings, by churches, temples and synagogues. Religious leaders across the country participate in some way. A national prayer broadcast can be found on GODTV, Facebook Live, and many other media channels.

We encourage you to spend a few minutes in prayer and reflection today. Start by giving thanks to your God. All too often we forget to say thanks to God for what he has provided to us. You could start by expressing your thanks to be living in a country that values and protects religious freedom. Think about what is going good in your life, your community and the world. As you pray, let God know you appreciate all he has provided. Then, consider how things are today. What is not going so well in your life? Do others around you need your prayers? There is always something in the world, that we can pray for… peace, an end to disease. There never seems to be a shortage of things to pray for. There is no established amount of time to spend in prayer today. Spend whatever amount of time you can, whatever amount of time you need. Make certain to select a time to pray, when you are not pressured to rush through your prayers.
