World Sauntering Day

Date When Celebrated : This holiday is always observed on June 19

World Sauntering Day is a day to saunter here and there, wherever you go.

You can spend your life walking through life, jogging through life, or being dragged through life. But, life is far more enjoyable, if you saunter through it. Its doubly true if you saunter with a friend or loved one.

Sauntering is  not a walk, jog, trot, or run. Sauntering is a form of strolling. Sauntering is a very casual, yet stylish, form of movement from point A to Point B. The dictionary defines sauntering as walking along slowly, happily and aimlessly. Now, doesn’t this sound like a grand way to get around?

On World Sauntering Day, practice your sauntering technique. Saunter everywhere you go.

Today’s Chuckle: “People say, ‘But Betty, Facebook is a great way to connect with old friends.’ Well, at my age, if I want to connect with old friends I need a Ouija board.” – – Betty White

The History and Origin of World Sauntering Day:

This day was created in the 1970’s by W. T. Rabe at Mackinac Island, Michigan while he was the Public Relations Director for a hotel on the island. Rabe was well known for his publicity stunts. Rabe describe it as “the lost art of Victorian sauntering.”

June 18th is National Splurge Day JD Mitchell Designs@ | Days to Remember

Date When Celebrated : This holiday is always observed on June 18

Today is not a day for penny pinchers, anyone on a diet, thrifty people or Ebenezer Scrooge. It’s National Splurge Day, oh Yeah! Let’s open the purse strings, eat to excess and have some fun.

There are certain dates on the calendar that you look forward to with great excitement. You mark the date and wait in eager anticipation. For me, National Splurge Day is one of those very special days.

National Splurge Day is a day to treat yourself excessively, to anything you want. Do it in style, let there be no limits today. Isn’t that a great thing? Go out and buy that boat you’ve always dreamed of, go to the spa and get the deluxe treatment, or buy that pricey new outfit you’ve wanted. Maybe, you’re on a diet, and that special dessert has too many calories. Maybe, you want to buy a steak, and the budget is a little tight. Have a little extra of your favorite ice cream, splurge a little and go out to a fancy restaurant for dinner. The options are endless. Toss out your reservations about spending over your budget, and go for it today.

Celebrate this day to the fullest degree. Treat yourself to whatever you want and to excess . For, this is indeed a day to splurge. Do so without worry or concern…until tomorrow. To keep in the spirit of the day, you may not want to balance your checkbook or step on a scale until tomorrow.

Smile Power Day

Date When Celebrated : This holiday is always observed on June 15

Smile Power Day is today. Feel the power. Give everyone you see a big, friendly, “I like you” smile. You never know, you’re warm smile just might turn someone’s day right around…for the good!

Love may make the world go round. But, a smile makes the world a happy place. A smile is a powerful thing. Best of all, it’s contagious. However, we do note that in order to be effective, a smile must be sincere. People can see right through phony or forced smiles.

Spend the whole day with a big, bright smile on your face. Flash a toothy smile to everyone you encounter.

A smile is so powerful, that it can:

  • Add years to your life
  • Make you a happier person
  • Make someone else a happier person
  • It’s a mood change for the giver and the receiver
  • Improves relationships
  • In business, it sends a great customer service message

Did you know? It’s easier to smile than to frown. A smile uses fewer muscles.

Monkey Around Day

Date When Celebrated : This day is always observed on June 14

Today is a day to  “Go Ape!”

Put aside your troubles and worries. Throw off the shackles of stress on every day living. Lock up your inhibitions in a safe, or a drawer. For today, is hereby declared Monkey Around Day!

We all need a day (and probably more than one) to just monkey around, doing anything that comes to mind. It can be silly. It can be inane. Or, it can be a wild, crazy whimsy, something we’ve always wanted to do, but sensibility held you back. In other words, go out and have some untamed fun! Tomorrow, you will be glad that you did.

You can celebrate this special holiday, with just about any kind of monkey business. For example, you can:

  • Monkey around. – – I bet you can think of a number of ways to “monkey around”
  • Act like a monkey
  • Put a banana in one hand, scratch your armpit with the other, as you make monkey noises. You get extra points for doing this in public.
  • Visit monkeys at the zoo.
  • Draw pictures of monkeys
  • Buy monkey stuffed animals, and other paraphernalia

But, what every you do, Money Around Day is not a time to be shy, sensible, or logical.

Today’s Chuckle: ” The surest way to make a monkey out of a man is to quote him.” – – Robert Benchley

Quit Monkeying Around (Original Poem) — Steemit

The History and Origin of Monkey Around Day:

This fun day was created in 2016 by Bob Matthews, of Rochester, NY. Bob is the creator of Holiday Insights. He selected June 14th, in honor of the birthday of his daughter Kimberly. Since she was a little child, Kimberly just loved monkeys and everything about them.

According to Bob: “There is way too much stress in our everyday lives. We need at least one day to set aside our stress, troubles, and worries, and to just relax and monkey around.”

national sewing machine day

June 13th is National Sewing Machine Day JD Mitchell Designs 2014 © | Days to Remember

Date When Celebrated : June 13th and September 10th

Sewing Machine Day celebrates a very important invention —– the sewing machine. The first sewing machines were made in France in the 1830s. It wasn’t until 1846, that they were patented in the U.S. What a great invention. Prior to it’s creation, clothes items were sewn together by hand…stitch by stitch.

People who know how to use a sewing machine are dwindling in number. Our mothers and grandmothers had a sewing machine in the house. They used it, too. But, look around your house. Do you have a sewing machine? Chance are, the answers is no.

If you have a sewing machine, enjoy today making things with it. If not, consider picking up sewing as a hobby.

Today’s Saying: “A stitch in time saves nine.”  Interpretation: Saves nine what, you ask. Well, stitches of course. One stitch made right away, prevents further breakage and will not require nine more stitches later.

Today’s Chuckle: “I’m sure wherever my Dad is, he’s looking down on us. He’s not dead, just very condescending.” – – Jack Whitehall

The History and Origin of Sewing Machine Day:

There remains some mystery around the date for this day. Almost all documentation on the internet suggests that June 13th is the date for Sewing Machine Day. But, we found no information why this date was selected. We did find an occasional reference to September 10th as the day for this holiday. And, this is the date that the sewing machine was patented. We also found a single reference to “New Sewing Machine Day” on March 1st.

If you sew, you have two days to celebrate Sewing Machine Day…..lucky you!

Many of us think of jerky as “beef jerky”. But,  it is make from almost any type of meat, including deer, chicken, poultry, pork, and turkey. A wide variety of flavorings, and often smoked, gives us a wide variety jerky to enjoy. And, enjoy it we do.
