So what comes on a stick? Practically anything. The first thing that comes to mind is popsicles and fudgesicles. Hotdogs and marshmallows on a stick are popular at campfires. There’s also corndogs, shrimp and many Chinese treats like pot stickers. When you use chopsticks, everything is on a stick! Cocktail wieners and cheese are picked and eaten on a stick(a toothpick). Wooden skewers used when cooking on the grill, contain all sorts of meats and vegetables. The list goes on and on.

You can also get just about anything on a stick when receiving food samples at a store or festival.

Celebrate this fun day by serving food for meals and snacks on a stick. The kids will love it. So will you!

National Joe Day

National Joe Day is a chance to change your name, if only for today.

Many people do not like their given name. They wish they could change it. A few actually do. On National Joe Day, it is perfectly okay to have everyone call your “Joe”. Why Joe, and not Bob or Mike or Radcliffe? Simply, because everyone likes the name Joe. If you are called Joe today, we know that you’re “Joe cool”!

This works well for the men out there. What about the ladies? We suggest you choose Josephine or Jody.

Live Long and Prosper Day

“Live Long and Prosper” is a saying from Science Officer and First Officer Spock, a Vulcan aboard the Starship Enterprise on the television series Star Trek. It is derived from the ancient Vulcan blessing : “May you live long and prosper”. Live Long and Prosper Day celebrates Spock, and his many Vulcan sayings.

How might you apply “Live long and prosper” to your life and those you love? This day encourages us to think about this particular saying, and how we can make our lives happier, healthier, and more prosperous. Matt McCarthy, creator of this day, encourages us to focus upon ways to live longer and to prosper. McCarthy suggest we accomplish this through: better food and diet, increased exercise, reading, relaxation, finding ways to save money, and through volunteering.

As, I’m sure you know, Spock was played by actor Leonard Nimoy. His full Vulcan name is S’chn T’gai Spock. While we refer to him as a Vulcan, he is actually half Vulcan and half human. Spock’s Vulcan father is Ambassador Sarek. His mother is Amanda Grayson.

Chapter 26

1As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.

2As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.

4Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

2It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

3The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

4Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

5Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

6Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:

International and National Waffle Day

International Waffle Day- March 25th

National Waffle Day- August 24th.

Waffle Day is a day that you can waffle on issues and decisions. And, it certainly is a day to get out the waffle iron and eat waffles.

International Waffle Day

This holiday originated in Sweden. It is called Våffeldagen. The holiday coincides with the Feast of the Annunciation. This day was also considered the start of spring in Sweden and Europe. It became a custom for Swedish families to celebrate the two events by making waffles on this day.

National Waffle Day

Celebrates the patenting of the waffle iron by Cornelius Swarthout of Troy, New York on August 24, 1869.

The origin of the waffle: The waffle dates back to the 1300s in Greece. Greeks cooked flat cakes between two metal pans. At the time, they topped it with cheeses and herbs. Pancake syrup wasn’t around back then.

Waffles are commonly eaten as breakfast or a snack. They are also an occasional dinner meal for some people.

National Cheesesteak Day

Are you hungry? Meal planning for the day is all set. As National Cheesesteak Day is today. This sandwich is best known as the “Philadelphia Cheesesteak” or “Philly Cheesesteak”.

Hot dog vendors and brothers Pat and Harry Olivieri from Philadelphia, PA are credited with creating the cheesesteak sandwich in the 1930s. They created a grilled beef and onion sandwich on a long, soft hoagie roll. It became an immediate hit. It wasn’t long before a taxi cab driver suggested to Pat Olivier that he quit the hot dog vending business and open a store to sell his popular sandwich. That’s exactly what he did, opening “Pat’s King of Steaks” restaurant. The original sandwich did not have cheese. Cocky Joe, an employee of the restaurant added melted provolone cheese. Grilled peppers also came later.

Celebrate today with a delicious and classical American sandwich for lunch, dinner or both of these meals!
